The Politics of Preschool

Please do not fret, you are not alone. Parents have given me their input, and requested that I blog about The Politics of Preschool. What is this you might ask? Much like an office setting, maneuvering your way through the halls of Preschool can be a tricky and daunting task. Careful not to step on teachers' toes, we encourage our parents to blog about The Politics of Preschool. How is your voice heard? or is your voice heard? And equally as important, how do you convey your concerns? BWrightParents

  1. oh boy - hot topic! I've seen it all with my three kids - teacher backlash, some petty and some not so petty actions taken against children from immature teachers. All of which if parents are unaware, can have a lasting negative impact on children.

  2. like why not have teacher evaluations. students are always evaluated, yet teachers can hide their personality types, get jaded or are unfit to hold their title - so i'd like to request state wide teacher evaluations - to wean out the undesirable teachers.

Re: Comment above from Mike, why not make that national teacher evaulations. The buck does not stop in NY, I live in Alanta (ATL) where education is #1 on the public agenda, however petty disputes between parents & teachers can create a sort of kill joy for our scholarly culture to say the least.

I received an invite to joined this discussion, and would ask parents everywhere to work with their kids educators. We, and yes I am a teacher (6 graders) want to work with parents, so mom & dad please do not expect us to inflict our moral values on your children, they should get that lesson plan from home.

it is time now more than ever for parents and teachers to create a bond in the best interest of children. as a parent, i compete with new media, print advertising, and tv influences on my daughter. when kids are at school a working relationship between teachers and parents instead of a competitive battle field would be best.

The heart of a teacher is vitally as important as they way he/she presents subject material. With power to do either good or bad, which is the relm of human nature - teachers nationwide should be called to deliver a higher moral standard regardless of their salaries. Where is a teachers heart - the heart of a teacher is worth more than gold.

  7. I have read the blogs from parents/teachers and I am from the old school where parents discipline their own children and the neighbor's children as well. The teachers were only responsible for the child's education and their behavior was always reported to the parent to be handled at home if it out of the teachers duty. Remember, those of you who can, teachers were allowed to paddle the kids back then, there was no laws to restrict this discipline moral nor did the kids have a 911 number to call if the parent spanked or whipped them in the home or in public. We as parents, has to look at ALL sides of the picture involving our kids, you should know your kids better than anyone and don't think that our children are these perfect little kids, look at their behavior at home and what are we teaching them at home in order to grab life outside?
